Getting a copy of your data

Get a copy of your data is under Account settings → Privacy and sharing, below Read receipts.

How it works

Press Ask for a copy. It is put together on the spot rather than hours later, and the screen tells you when it is ready. Nothing is emailed — there is no message to wait for. Then press Download it. You get a file called kabora-your-data.json — plain text you can open in any text editor.

Download it appears once a copy is ready, and goes when it expires.

The copy stays downloadable for seven days. Asking again inside that window gives you the same copy back rather than making a second one. After it expires, ask again whenever you like.

In the Kabora app you can ask for the copy, but the download itself happens on kabora.app.

What is in it

Twelve sections, each labelled: your account details, where you have signed in, your saved lists, your stays, your messages, your message threads, how you have marked your threads, reviews you wrote, what you paid, identity checks, when you contacted us, and reports you filed.

What is left out on purpose

Most of these the file names itself, section by section:

• Your password and your two-factor secret. Both are credentials rather than facts about you. Your password is never stored in a form anyone can read back, us included. The two-factor secret is different — we do hold it, and it is left out because a copy of it is a copy of your second step.
• Your session identifier. It *is* your sign-in cookie — a live key to your account.
• A saved list's share link. Anyone holding one can read the list, so the link itself stays out of the file. If a link has travelled further than you meant, open the list on kabora.app and press Reset link: every copy already sent stops working. It is a reset rather than an off switch — a fresh link takes the old one's place.
• Your hosts' private notes about you or your stay. Those are their business records, not yours. Your own note on a thread is yours, and it is included.
• The card processor's own reference, and what Kabora and your host settled between themselves.
• Reports other people filed, even ones about you.

What is missing without the file saying so

• Files and photos sent in a message thread. The messages section carries the words, not the attachments.
• The homes saved inside a list. "Your saved lists" is the list names and when you made them, not what is in them.
• Reactions. The messages section claims reactions are included without the identifiers of the people who left them. They are not in the file at all.

If any of those matter to you, ask us for them directly rather than hunting through the file for something that is not there.

The file states three limits of its own: bookings made before this address had a Kabora account may not appear; where you have stayed with several hosts, this is your side of each of their records; and your hosts' private notes are not included.
