Getting in: door codes and arrival details

Everything you need to get through the door is on your stay page, under Getting in: the address, the time you can check in after, and the time you must be out by. A Directions link sits beside the address when your host has pinned the place on a map — without that pin there is no link, and if no address has been filled in at all, that row is simply not there. The check-in and check-out times are always shown.

When the code appears

The door code and the Wi-Fi network and password are held back until the stay is near. They appear three days before check-in and stay there until your checkout date, and only for the people on the booking, signed in: you, and anyone who has joined your trip. Before then the page prints the exact date they will show, so there is nothing to guess at. Your host gives your stay its own code; if they have not by the reveal date, the page says so and that they will be in touch.

The wait is deliberate: a door code sitting on a live link for four months is a door code that leaks.

Two things follow from how this works:

  • A request your host has not answered gets no Getting in section at all — no address, no times, not even the countdown. Neither does one they declined, nor a booking that was cancelled. Those pages tell you where the request stands instead.
  • Once your stay is over — or once your host marks you checked out, which can be earlier if you leave early — the code and Wi-Fi stop being shown. If you left something behind, the page points you back at your host.

If the reveal date arrives and there is no door code, the page says so plainly rather than showing an empty box, and tells you your host will be in touch before you arrive — whether or not the Wi-Fi is there. Before that date the countdown looks identical whether they have filled anything in or not, so it is not a signal either way.

The rest of the arrival

Under the code sits whatever your host wrote: how to get in, where to park, how the place works, and the house rules. Your host's checkout instructions sit with the code under Before you leave, on the same dates.

The emergency contact is not kept with them. No screen lets a host fill it in yet, so on most stays it is not there; where it is, it is the last line of the page, under More about your stay, below the photos, the price and the cancellation terms — worth finding before you need it.

What arrives by email

For a confirmed stay, Kabora emails you an arrival note three days before check-in — or shortly after you book, if you booked closer in than that — and a checkout note the day before you leave. Each goes out once.

Neither email contains the door code or the Wi-Fi password. The arrival note carries the place, your dates and times, how to get there, the Wi-Fi network's name and your host's notes, and says the code and the password are on your stay page, where only the people on the booking see them. A host's own automated messages arrive by email too: if one mentions the code or the password, the email says they are on your stay page instead, and the copy in your Kabora inbox keeps them.

The checkout note carries your host's own checkout instructions, or one generic line if they wrote none.

So when it is time to travel, open the stay page. It is the current version; the emails are a nudge towards it, not a copy of it.
