Your stays
If your host cancels
A cancellation policy prices your change of mind. None of that reasoning survives when the host is the one calling it off — you did nothing and you have lost your trip — so no band applies.
The money
Every card payment you made toward the stay goes back to the card it came from, in full. Not a percentage, and not less the fees: the platform fee and card processing are carried by the host in this case rather than taken out of what you get back.
Money your host recorded as taken outside Kabora — cash at the door, a bank transfer, a cheque — cannot be sent back through the card processor. Your host returns that to you the way it arrived. Kabora does not move it for you, so ask them for it directly.
When there is a card refund to send, it goes out before the cancellation is recorded, and if the card processor refuses it the booking is not cancelled at all. A cancelled stay still holding your money is the state that rule exists to prevent. But that guard covers card money only: a stay funded entirely outside Kabora is cancelled with nothing returned automatically.
Money you sent your host separately — a make-good, a shared cost, a thank-you — is not counted as money paid toward the stay, so it does not add anything to your refund. Getting it back is between you and your host.
What happens to the trip
- The stay moves to Cancelled and stays there. It is a final state; it cannot be reopened, even by the host who cancelled it.
- Your door code and Wi-Fi stop being shown on the stay page, which now reads "This booking was cancelled" and tells you to contact your host and quote your confirmation code if that is unexpected.
- The trip moves into the Cancelled reservations group in your Trips.
- When your host cancels from their dashboard, any messages they had queued for the stay are withdrawn, so you will not get a "see you tomorrow" for a trip that is not happening.
How you find out
When your host cancels, Kabora emails you: the stay is off, what comes back and how, and replying reaches your host. Your trip list and your stay page change too.
A cancellation you asked for is also posted in your message thread when the host agrees, and emailed to you — unless you have muted that conversation, which changes only whether the email is sent, never the money. A cancellation approved from your message thread also does not withdraw the messages your host had queued for the stay.
