Sending Photos and Videos

Sending From the Website

Press Message tools, the ☰ button below the message box, and choose Add a photo or video. Choose up to ten files at a time. They appear in the box, each with an × to remove it. Press Send. Anything you type in the box follows as its own message, after the pictures.

What You Can Send

• Photos: JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 25 MB each. An iPhone's own .heic is refused. Save it as JPG first, or set Settings → Camera → Formats to Most Compatible.
• Video: MP4, WebM or MOV, up to 80 MB each. An iPhone video in HEVC that your browser cannot convert is refused. Save it as H.264 first, or set Settings → Camera → Formats to Most Compatible before you film.

No other kind of file can be sent, such as a PDF or a document; put a link in the text instead.

Each file is sent as its own message, and what you type can contain up to 4,000 characters. A photo with no words after it shows in your conversation list as "Photo" or "Video", so the thread does not appear empty.

Viewing Attachments

Click a photo in a thread to see it at full size. To close it, press the dark area around it, or the × in the corner. Pressing the photo itself does not close it, so you can look closely without losing it. Videos play inside the message with standard controls.

Sending From the Kabora App

The + beside the box offers Add a photo or video from your library, or Take a photo with the camera. You can choose up to ten at a time. Whatever you have typed in the box follows as its own message, after the pictures.

The formats above do not restrict the app: it converts whatever your camera roll holds to JPEG before it uploads. Videos are converted as well: the app sends every video as an MP4 at 1280×720, whatever the camera recorded.

Sending a picture requires a connection. Typed messages wait in a queue when you have no signal, but a photo does not. The app states this rather than implying the photo is on its way.

Unsending and Email Notifications

• Unsending removes the photo: Within 24 hours of sending, unsending removes the file from the thread along with the words.
• A photo does not email your host: Kabora emails your host when you write words. An attachment arrives in their Kabora inbox and waits to be seen, so if the matter is urgent, send words as well.
• A photo from your host does email you: Kabora emails you about a photo from your host, unless you have muted that conversation.
