What You See

Below each message you sent, a small line appears once someone has opened the thread since:

• Your host: Seen by and your host's name. The host's side appears as one reader, never a list of their staff.
• Companions: A companion who joined your trip appears by first name. With three or more readers, the line reads "and 2 others".

What Your Host Sees

Your host sees the same line in the other direction: Seen by and your first name, once you have opened the thread after their message. Opening a thread marks it read, and their "Seen by" is based on that moment.

Turning Read Receipts Off

Read receipts are on by default. The setting covers your whole account, not one conversation. It is under Account settings → Privacy and sharing → Read receipts, on kabora.app and in the Kabora app.

Turning them off works in both directions. Hosts are no longer told when you read, and you are no longer told when they read. This is deliberate: receiving receipts while withholding your own would be an advantage, not privacy.

The change takes effect immediately, including for messages already sent. It applies to every screen that shows a read time. With either person's setting off, your host sees nothing about when you read, in their inbox on the web or on their phone. The plain Seen in your own thread is removed too.

What the Setting Does Not Change

The setting does not change your own position in a thread. Kabora still records where you stopped reading, because that determines your unread count. That position is yours alone; a receipt is the other person being told about it.

Marking a Thread as Unread

Mark as unread, in the three-dot menu of an open thread, returns a conversation you have opened to bold and to your Unread count.

Kabora takes you out of the thread when you do this, on purpose. Staying in the thread would mark it read again and remove the mark you set. The mark remains until you next open that thread, which clears it.
