Paying and refunds

Security deposits

Only when your host asks for one

Some hosts require a deposit and some do not. Where one is required, the listing on kabora.app names it with the amount before you book, and your trip page says it again. Where there is none, nothing is shown — no empty line, no zero.

In the Kabora app, your trip shows a deposit Kabora runs for your host. The app does not show a deposit on the listing, or one your host collects themselves, so open the listing on kabora.app if it matters to you.

It is not part of your total

The deposit is never in the price breakdown. How it is taken depends on what your host chose:

  • Kabora holds it on your card. The amount is blocked on your card before you arrive and released after you leave. Nothing is charged unless you agree to a damage request.
  • Kabora charges it and gives it back. Your card is charged before you arrive and refunded after you leave.
  • Your host collects it. Payment and return both happen away from Kabora.

A hold or charge is placed shortly before arrival — two days before, unless your host changed it — and returned a few days after checkout. Your trip page gives the dates.

If your card is refused

Kabora tries once, then offers Try my card again on your trip page, on the website and in the app. You and your host are both told.

Damage

If your host asks you for money for something damaged, the deposit is held back while the ask is open. What you agree to is paid out of it, and the rest comes back. See "When a host asks for money after your stay".

A deposit your host collects

Kabora records only what your host tells it: that they collected it, and later that they returned it or kept some of it, with their reason. Your trip page shows what they recorded — returning an amount on a date, keeping an amount for a reason. That is your host's word rather than a payment Kabora watched.

The amount shown is the one your host has set today

Nothing about a deposit is frozen when you book. The listing and your trip page both read your host's current setting, so a host who raises their deposit in March raises the figure shown on a stay you booked in February — and a host who switches the deposit off makes the line vanish from your trip page altogether.

Save a copy of the listing when you book. If the number later looks different from the one you agreed to, ask your host to confirm the figure in writing.
