The Map on Search Results

What the Map Shows

Every pin shows a price rather than a dot, because the list already shows that something is there. The price is the cheapest open night in the next 90 days among the matching units. When your search includes dates, a pin shows the same full stay total as its card, fees and taxes included.

A pin sits in the place's area, not at its door; the exact location is shared after a booking. Clicking a pin opens the listing.

Using the Map

• Provider: The map is Google's.
• Scrolling: Scrolling over the map moves the page, not the map.
• Zooming: Hold Ctrl (⌘ on a Mac) while you scroll, pinch, or use the + and − buttons in its corner.
• Placement: After you search, a wide screen shows the map beside the results, fixed while they scroll. On a phone, or while you browse without a search, the map appears below the results.

Which Places Are Pinned

Results load 24 to a page. The map pins the places on the current page, so it changes when you change pages.

Places Without a Location

A host who has not placed their listing on a map can still list it and take bookings, but Kabora has no location to pin. On an ordinary search, the heading above the map states this, for example "12 of 14, 2 have no location yet". For a single place, it reads "one has no location yet".

The heading does not report two cases:

• No locations at all: If no result has a location, the map is hidden rather than shown empty.
• After Search this area: Places without coordinates are already excluded from the count, so the heading does not mention them.

Search This Area

A Search this area button appears only after you move or zoom the map, because searching the area already shown would change nothing.

Pressing it adds the edges of the view (north, south, east and west) to the address bar, so a searched area is a link you can send or bookmark. It also returns you to page one. Clear area removes the area.

An area search excludes every place without coordinates, because a place with an unknown location cannot be shown to be here.

The Map on a Listing Page

A listing page shows a different map: a shaded circle about a kilometer across, with no pin. Only a host who chose to show the exact location has a marker on the house. Either way, the street address is shared after you book. For every other listing, the place is inside the circle, never at its center, and the map states "Somewhere inside the circle."
