Translating a Message

Open a message thread on kabora.app or in the Kabora app. On a message from your host, Translate to ‹language› is under More in that message's actions (in the app, press and hold the message), unless the message is already plainly in your language. Press it to show the translation below the original, and Hide translation to remove it.

The target language is your App language, under Account settings → Languages & translation.

When Translation Is Available

Translation must be switched on for the server you are using, and no setting available to you turns it on. Where it is on, two further options exist:

Automatic translation: Under Account settings → Languages & translation, it translates every message others write to you, except one written in a language you listed there as one you know.
Translate this conversation: In a thread's menu, it does the same for one thread.

The link is the sign to look for. If no message from your host has a link, either your host writes in your language or translation is not available.

Which Messages Can Be Translated

Messages from others: Only messages from other people, such as your host or someone traveling with you. Your own messages carry no link.
Messages with words: Only messages with words in them. A photo or video sent alone carries no link.
Unsent messages: A message your host unsent leaves a short line saying so, and that line has no link.

What Translation Does Not Do

Outgoing messages: Nothing you write is translated on its way out. Your host receives your words exactly as you typed them. Their own Translate control can show them in their language.
The original message: Translation never changes the message. The original remains above the translation, and your host is not told that you translated it.
Saved translations: The link keeps nothing. A translation you requested stays on screen until you leave the page; press the link again to see it again. With Automatic translation on, the thread opens already translated.
Very long messages: A very long message can come back cut short. The translated text has its own length limit, and it ends without warning at that limit. If the ending is missing, ask your host to resend the important part shorter.

If a translation fails, a short note appears below the link, and the original remains unchanged. Press the link again to retry.

Relying on a Translation

Translation is a machine reading aid, not a guarantee. When a detail matters, such as a Door code, a date, an amount or an address, ask your host to confirm it plainly. Do not act on the translation alone.
