Safety and problems

What Kabora can and cannot do in an emergency

Start here

If you are in danger, call your local emergency number. Kabora cannot reach you, cannot send anyone, and has nobody sitting by a phone. The report form on a listing says as much under its send button: we can take a listing down; we cannot reach you.

What Kabora does not have

  • No phone line and no live chat. Nothing in the product puts you in front of a Kabora person in minutes.
  • No push from the website. Kabora emails you. The phone app does push what you choose under Notifications, but it is in TestFlight and not yet on the App Store.
  • No emergency contact of your own. Your account holds no next-of-kin or emergency number — there is no field for one anywhere.

Your host is the fastest human

  • The message thread. A stay booked on Kabora has one. What you send lands in the host's notifications straight away, and emails them too unless they have switched that alert off.
  • Email. Some Kabora emails about your stay reply straight to your host and many do not, so do not count on it in a hurry. The message thread is the one that always reaches them.
  • A phone number, if they gave one. Your reservation shows Host phone with a copy button when the host has put a number in their settings. Plenty have not.
  • Something urgent? on your stay page. The private page for your stay prints a host's emergency line under that heading when the property has one — but no screen in the product lets a host fill that field in today, so on a real booking expect it to be blank.

What Kabora can actually do

  • Take a report about a listing. It goes to Kabora staff, not to your host, and you have to be signed in. It writes one line into a queue that a person reads and marks resolved by hand. No alarm goes off, and nobody writes back to you about it. A second report on the same listing within an hour is treated as the one you already sent, so put everything in the first one.
  • Open a case. Help center → Contact support opens a case, emails Kabora, and a person replies in the conversation — under Messages → Support, in the app and on the web — and by email. Signed in only. Kabora promises a reply within 24 hours, which is not something to lean on while a problem is happening.

If cancelling is the answer

  • You can usually cancel yourself from the reservation, and the exact refund is shown before you confirm.
  • A Non-refundable booking cannot be cancelled by you at any point. The same goes for any policy that does not allow late cancellation once you are past its free window: the button reads Ask the host to cancel instead.
  • A booking made on Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com is cancelled on the site it came from.
  • Whatever the policy gives back, Kabora's platform fee and the card processing come off the top first and do not return. Both are named at checkout.

Said plainly

Kabora is a place to book and a place to be heard afterwards. It is not an emergency service, not a security company, and nobody here can come to the door. For something happening right now: your local emergency number first, then your host.
