The privacy switches you have

Read receipts

Kabora has one privacy switch and it covers read receipts. It is on by default, and it is symmetric: turn yours off and you stop seeing when other people read your messages, exactly as they stop seeing when you read theirs. Receipts only work when both people share them.

Where it is: Account settings → Privacy and sharing → *Read receipts*, on the website since 2026-09-17; the phone app has the same switch. Turning it off takes effect straight away, for earlier messages too.

Where the switch applies, it is applied where the message data is built rather than where the marker is drawn, so the read time never leaves the server. Kabora does not hide the marker while still sending the time to the other side.

Your host's inbox respects it, on the web and on the phone: with either side's switch off, the host learns nothing about when you opened the thread, and the plain Seen under your last message goes too. A screen that still prints a read time is a bug worth reporting, not a rule.

Your own unread badge is untouched. That is your bookmark, not a receipt about you.

What you control by leaving it blank

A phone number, a photo, a short bio, your languages and your postal address are all optional, all editable, all deletable. No host screen shows any part of your address — it is read on your own profile and nowhere else. Your date of birth is used for one thing, confirming you are 18 or over, and hosts never see it.

What a host sees regardless

The host you book with gets your name, your email, your phone number if you gave one, and the details of the stay. That is the booking, not a setting, and there is no switch to turn it off.

What you can turn down

• Mute a conversation. The ⋯ menu on a thread has Mute, and it does real work: while a thread is muted, the host replying to it sends you no email and no phone notification. Unmute puts it back.
• Archive a conversation. Same menu. It takes the thread out of your list, and Past conversations brings it back when you want it.

What you hear about

Account settings → Notifications is per kind — messages, new bookings, cancellations, payment problems, trip reminders, review reminders, trip invitations, money and changes and extras in a booking, offers and news — each by email and by phone. Anything about a stay is on to begin with; offers are off unless you ask for them. The phone app's Settings → Notifications is the same list, and push reaches the phone (the app is in TestFlight, not yet on the App Store); the website itself emails.

What does not exist

So you do not go hunting:

• No deleting a conversation. Archiving hides it from your list. Nothing removes it for both sides.

Kabora does not sell your data and runs no advertising trackers.
