Money

Money between guest and host

Money that isn't the booking's own price — an extra night, a broken lamp, money back for a problem — is asked for and answered inside the reservation, and both sides read the same record.

Asking, and offering

Either side can ask the other for money, or offer to send some.

  • Hosts use Manage reservation → Send or request money on the booking, the same door travelers have: Ask your guest, or Send money to your guest. Money for something damaged can be asked for up to 14 days after checkout, and anything else up to 60 days. Offering money back is never too late.
  • Travelers use Manage reservation → Send or request money. Request money asks the host. Send money is different: on the website it charges a card the traveler has saved straight away, with no approval step, from $1 up to $5,000. In the Kabora app it is an offer the host accepts first.

An ask or an offer needs an amount of at least $1 and what it is for. It lands in the stay's conversation as a card, and whoever has to answer is told by email and by a notification in the Kabora app. An ask nobody answered offers Request again.

Answering

Only the other side can answer, and on the traveler's side only the person who booked. The card offers Agree, Agree to part — an ask only, typing how much — or Decline. Whoever asked can Take back while it is open. Anything nobody answers runs out after 48 hours, and nothing moves.

What moves the money

  • Money going back to the guest goes back the moment it is agreed, to the card they paid with, and the stay's price comes down by the same amount. It can't be more than the guest has paid toward the stay, less the platform fee and card processing, which never come back. The cleaning fee and taxes don't come back this way either. Anything the guest paid another way comes back from the host directly.
  • Money the guest owes the host is paid by the guest: the agreed card shows Pay, with the amount, and the money goes to the host's own Stripe account.

Kabora's fee

Money a guest pays a host this way — an agreed ask, or Send money — carries 2%, taken from the host's side. Money going back to a guest carries nothing.

When you can't agree

Either side can press Ask Kabora to step in on the card, until it is paid or taken back. It opens a case with Kabora's support team about that stay, with the request already written in. The other side is told in the conversation, and someone from Kabora replies within 24 hours. There is one case per request: once somebody has pressed it, the card reads Kabora is looking at this for both of you. Stepping in doesn't move any money by itself.

Reading a receipt

Every stay paid through Kabora shows the same three lines — Charged, Refunded, Balance — on Manage reservation, on the host's stay and in the app. When the guest has paid more than the stay now costs, the third reads Owed back to the guest. A cancelled stay's balance is always none; what was kept or returned is spelled out beneath ("Cancelled — $550.00 kept under the Strict policy").
